A flexi-job in the construction sector is a system where you can earn extra as an employee with a different employer than your main employer. You pay only a limited social security contribution of 28%, and the income is completely tax-free. Since 2025, the construction sector has been permanently opened up for flexi-jobs, under strict conditions to prevent social dumping.
As a flexi-jobber in construction, you enjoy an attractive net hourly wage. The minimum wages are set in sectoral collective agreements. Currently, the minimum gross hourly wage for a flexi-job in construction is around €16 (depending on your role and experience). Thanks to the low social security contribution and no personal income tax, you keep almost all of it net.
To be allowed to do a flexi-job, you must have worked at least 80% for another employer in the preceding third quarter. You cannot do a flexi-job with an employer where you already work, or with a related company. The construction sector additionally requires that you either have a qualification or can demonstrate at least 5 years of experience in construction.
In construction, you can perform almost all roles under a flexi-job agreement. Think of painter, bricklayer, roofer, carpenter, electrician, plumber, handyman, concrete worker, and so on. Helpers and labourers are also eligible. The employer decides whether the job is offered as a flexi-job.
